Privacy Policy

This page describes what information Shirokuma collects, why we collect it, and how we handle it.

What we collect and why

1. Analytics

To understand how the site is used, we rely on the aggregate analytics provided by our hosting platform, Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.). It counts things like page views and referrers in aggregate. It does not use cookies and does not collect information that identifies individuals. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy for details.

2. Newsletter subscription

The Shirokuma newsletter delivers updates about the blog (shirokumamake.com) and each product (Kosshi, Ohaco, and others), sent by the operator, Junichi Sato. If you subscribe from a form on ohaco.app or kosshi.app, your subscription is managed as part of the same newsletter, organized by topic.

When you subscribe, we collect:

  • Your email address
  • The page URL you subscribed from (referrer) and the locale (ja / en)

We send the topics you subscribed to (Blog, Kosshi, Ohaco) and do not send topics you did not opt into. The blog newsletter is mostly a weekly summary of new posts. Separately, Shirokuma may also send updates from time to time. We never use your data for advertising and never share it with third parties.

We use double opt-in: after you submit the form, we send a confirmation email and you must click the link to complete the subscription. Pending data is automatically deleted after 24 hours.

3. Contact

When you email us, we receive:

  • Your email address
  • Your message

We use this only to reply to your inquiry.

4. Rate limiting

When you submit the subscription form, we briefly process your IP address (via Cloudflare) to prevent abuse. Rate-limit counters are deleted automatically within one hour.

Third-party processors

We use Resend (Resend Inc., US) to deliver the newsletter.

  • Newsletter: We pass your email address and locale (ja / en) to Resend, which stores them as part of our subscriber list
  • Resend may track email opens and clicks as part of its standard delivery features

Email you send us (your address and message) is received and stored in the operator’s email account (Google’s mail service).

The site and related APIs are served via Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.). Cloudflare temporarily processes IP addresses and basic request metadata to deliver content and protect against abuse. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy for details.

Retention

  • Pending subscription data: deleted automatically after 24 hours
  • Rate-limit counters: deleted automatically within one hour
  • Confirmed subscribers: stored on Resend. After you unsubscribe, we keep a record of your unsubscribe request to prevent future delivery. To have your address fully deleted, please email us
  • Email inquiries: received in the operator’s inbox and retained by the operator for as long as necessary to handle the inquiry

Your rights

For the data we hold about you, you can request:

  • Access to what we hold
  • Correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion
  • To stop receiving the newsletter or other communications

You can unsubscribe at any time, per topic, using the link in every newsletter email. For any other request, please email the address on the contact page.
